I like tracking things. When I was growing up I had notebooks and when I would finish games, I would write them in my notebook, and then brag to my friends about how many games I had beat. As I got older, games became more about the joy of play then number of completions, but then somehow as I got older still, it was just checklists and FAQs and 100% completions. So now I’ve tried to come back to just the joy of play, but I still like to track things…so here we are!
This post will serve as the launching point for books, movies, shows, and games. Since I made a website, I figured this was as good as anything else to put on it, instead of having backloggds and screen rants or whatever else is out there. I just rolled my own since I don’t really care about the social features those sites offer.
For better or worse, over time my media consumption habits have strongly shifted away from books and more towards games. I watch some shows but I am not a regular show watcher. I’m also going to group comics, anime, and books all together under reading. Don’t like it? TOUGH. I didn’t make a website so I could play by your rules. Direct all comments, questions and concerns to /dev/null. Does anyone make that joke anymore? I’m bringing it back.
I might include music, but I’ve never had a great music discovery engine outside of playing games. When I was a kid I listened to my mom’s records and tapes and also the radio, and sometimes when I lived with other family members they might have cable so I watched MTV as well. In college, I mostly just picked up music from tastemaker friends and that shaped a lot of my tastes, but ever since I joined the working world and the fracturing of monoculture happened, I often times have not discovered new artists or even kept up with ones that I like. Although that last point can be a special treat. DUELING BANJO BROS DROPPED FOUR NEW ALBUMS IN THE LAST SEVEN YEARS?! HELL YEAH
Anyway the point being listening might be there but it will never be very active (says the guy making his first post in months)
